How I and my clients were selected for the HGTV segment!

Folks have asked me, how I was selected to be on the HGTV show My First Place.  I should have started this blog at the beginning.  So back to the future…

HGTV is always looking for candidates for their shows when they are scheduled to come to the various metropolitan areas.  My managing broker, Maxine Miller, was contacted by one of the producers asking if any of the agents had any first time homebuyers that might be interested in appearing on one of their shows.  She forwarded the email to all of us (REAL ESTATE AGENTS in our office) and I responded immediately, as I had an adorable, interesting couple, who I thought would be perfect.  Having appeared on HGTV before (I will write about that another time) I knew exactly what the producers look for when selecting “talent” for their shows.

So, we completed the application with all the details about me and my buyers.  Answered some personality type questions, included some photos of all of us and I sent it off to be reviewed by the producers.  Not long after, I received a phone call saying that they were interested and wanted to bring in a crew for a personality shoot.  I’m guessing it was to see how we interacted on film, our energy and of course if we looked like movie stars  (ha ha, just a joke)!

So we met with a camera guy who set up his enormous equipment in my client’s apartment, he asked us lots of questions and then we waited once again to hear back, if we had been selected for the show.  About a week later, we were congratulated!  We were excited and then received a list of the dos and don’ts.  What colors to wear, don’t change hair color/style during the course of the shoot, don’t buy a new car (my car is actually in some of the scenes), and a list of the shoot schedule.  Long list!

That was the beginning of a very long, fun, sometimes exhausting and interesting process!  We actually have one more shoot which they call “pickups.”  This is filling in with voice and film areas that the producers have determined need fixing, I guess!

Okie dokie…I’m signing off for now!

HGTV “My First Place” Update

We had our final ‘house tour” shoot right after the holidays.  We spent the good part of a day shooting scenes in one house.  Devon and Carolyn did not really like the house as it was right next to Route 1 and right behind a commercial building.  We did have a good time as usual being movie stars.  We are told that the episode will air sometime later this year.  We are definitly looking forward to that.  As far as benefits to me…well there really aren’t any except for the experience and being a part of a great memory Devon and Carolyn will have.

So, my next post is gonna be really cool as I have lots of news about the Northern Virginia Real Estate Market.  I will put my movie star sunglasses to rest and get back to the business of selling Real Estate!  Stay posted!

HGTV “My First Place” – Update

Me and my clients! So, tonight we had another shoot for the HGTV My First Place episode.  It was a phone call from me to Devon and Carolyn (my first time home buyer clients).  Carolyn and Devon had the entire crew (2 cameramen, sound guy, go get stuff guy and the producer) at their apartment to film their reaction to the news I had.  I had great news about the appraisal on the home they are buying.  The appraised value came in 10k over sales price.  Which means, they have 10k equity moving into their house…which is not common in this market.  Seems all is going well for this young couple.  Stay tuned – more to follow!!!
